The borough’s young people are looking ahead to a bright future after receiving their results from Hopwood Hall College and University Centre.

The college – which has campuses in Middleton and Rochdale – was celebrating when the grades were released on Thursday (18 August).

It shows that students’ hard work has paid off – with 58% of all Level 3 Extended Diploma students gaining a Distinction grade or higher.

In addition, there was an outstanding 98% pass rate for this popular diploma route.

This has meant that students are now moving one step closer to their dream jobs.

Wiktoria Grabowska, from Littleborough, was among the many who achieved fantastic results.

The former Wardle Academy pupil earned an incredible two Distinction*s and a Distinction in the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management.

She’s now accepted a place to study Veterinary Nursing at Nottingham Trent University.

Meanwhile, course mate Billy Cooper has chosen to stay closer to home after being awarded a place at Hopwood’s thriving University Centre.

Billy, who was a pupil at Co-op Academy Failsworth, will start on the popular HND in Animal Management from September.

This will allow him to pursue his dream career working with reptiles and amphibians as a herpetologist.

Hopwood’s most recent academic year saw more students than ever before apply for Higher Education, with the majority securing a place at their first-choice university.

All in all, the number of people applying to university is up 54% from 2020.

In September these ambitious young people will go on to study courses in subjects such as Multimedia Journalism, Business Management and Marine Biology in places such as Brighton, Norwich and Bangor.

Julia Heap, Principal and CEO of Hopwood Hall College and University Centre, said: “I couldn’t be more proud of this year’s students and the amazing success they’ve found at Hopwood Hall!

“The class of 2022 has worked so hard and I’ve no doubt that they’ll go on to achieve great things in their next steps.

“Many have already secured the jobs they’ve been working towards, while others have been accepted to very prestigious universities.

“Whichever route our alumni have gone down, they have definitely set an incredible example for future students!”

Animal Management student Wiktoria Grabowska said: “I’m so pleased with my results. The first thing I did was call my mum – she was delighted!

“I’ve always been so connected to animals so this course really was perfect for me.

“My favorite part was nursing the wildlife because I was able to learn about different medicines and how to treat diseases.

“The whole experience only made me more determined to become a veterinary nurse.”

Animal Management student Billy Cooper said: “I’m really pleased with my results and thrilled that I’ve been accepted to stay on to study the HND at Hopwood’s University Centre.

“Both the tutors and the facilities are excellent, so it’s a big bonus that I get to stay at an institution where I’m already so comfortable.

“It’s so convenient to have such an extraordinary place like this so close to home. I don’t have to move away or do a massive drive every day.

“Instead, I can just pick right up where I left off by gaining even more experience with the reptiles and amphibians.”
